The internet is teeming with hacks and tricks, and as we all know, a lot of them just aren't true. It's the nature of the beast. The same freedom that allows anyone to have a voice on the web also means people just get on the internet and tell lies (it's true, Buster)! I saw this trick a while back for how to pre-scramble eggs before you cook them and I was mildly skeptical. It really felt like another internet lie. Since we're looking forward to the Easter season and eggs have been on my brain, this trick came to mind and I decided to be the guinea pig and try my hand at some golden eggs. I'm here to tell you: it's no lie!
82 Things To Do With Your Boo on Valentine's Day (That Don't Involve Dinner Reservations)
Valentine's Day is almost here! The older I get, the more sentimental I become - meaning I really enjoy February 14th. I understand that it's a silly holiday, but it feels sillier to hate on a holiday that's all about love. I literally never remember to purchase gift tags at Christmastime - and I'm not using the term "literally" for extra drama here. I actually cannot recall a single time I've ever picked up gift tags at the store, put them in my shopping basket, and taken them to the register to check out. What usually ends up happening when I'm wrapping presents is I realize my mistake, try to find a nice-enough piece scrap of paper, scribble the recipient's...
Wintertime is in full swing here in Minnesota. Early in the week we experienced a few rounds of snow and ice, resulting in the outdoors being treacherous and uninviting. While I definitely have holiday-related errands to run this weekend, staying off the roads and keeping indoors is pretty tempting. I'm a homebody for certain, and I've learned how to keep the stir-crazies away during these colder months. Part of staying sane while being stuck inside has to do with how you light your home. Coziness is a must, and these DIY holiday luminaries are just that - cozy!
I never believed in Santa Claus.
I was raised in a pragmatic and practical household. My parents were, and are, no-nonsense folk. Keen on traditions, but not fond excess frill. This was true during the holidays, too. From the very beginning, there was no Santa. He was just a story, a nice idea. Instead of the jolly man in the red suit, there was gratitude for one another, and drawn-out appreciation for gifts received (we were only allowed to open two gifts a day - one in the morning and one at night - for the duration of the twelve days of Christmas, or until the gifts ran out). I don't feel like I missed out having a childhood without Santa. If anything, I'm kind of glad I got to skip the heartbreak of realizing he was just a fantasy. You know where I did miss out, though? In the Christmas cookie department. Big time.
