I'm not sure if this kitchen makeover is stunningly surprising or surprisingly stunning. It might be stunning for obvious reasons, but it's surprising for what DIDN'T change. Namely the flooring, the appliances AND the cabinets. Yes, the
What I love about Megan's DIY kitchen makeover is it's totally unexpected. Let's face it, there's a lot of kitchen makeovers out there that, although they look fabulous after, they all kinda look alike. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing; they're popular for a reason. But as someone who searches for kitchen makeovers on the intertubes on a regular basis, something different is good. Now back to
This kitchen was very blah. Old white appliances combined with oddly-colored cabinets made for a dated, unattractive looking space that sure wouldn't make me want to cook. But just wait until you see what a little bit of ingenuity and some serious elbow grease can accomplish.
Honestly, would you take a second look at these two dining side chairs if you came across them on CL or at the GW? If you think they looked rough on the outside, they looked even WORSE on the inside. Check
This kitchen had many problems. A lack of color, mismatched cabinets and a grungy feel. Click through to find out how the space got a complete makeover with no major renovations.
The kitchen in Allie's 1978 home looks nothing like this anymore thanks in large part to some strategic demolition and IKEA. The demo bit came when she and her husband knock down the wall between their kitchen and dining room to create one open space. The wood flooring was removed and replaced with something that unified the expansion. When it came time to furnish the area, IKEA cabinets were chosen
I have an 18 inch wide pantry and this is how it has looked lately. We moved into our house with big dreams of a future kitchen renovation but until then, we must function out of very little storage. This pantry will some day be gone so I have no desire to spend tons of time and money modifying it to awesomeness. I honestly don't think it could get there anyway. My goal was to go to the store, grab some storage solutions and bring myself home the things that will make my pantry more usable.
This 158 year old Manhattan townhouse had seen better days, but its new owners recognized its potential. You won't believe your eyes when you see how they transformed the kitchen. Click through to see how it turned out!
The lovely thing about IKEA's Tarva dressers--besides their low sticker price--is their blank-canvas quality. They can easily be painted and stained to make them one of a kind creations. Katie, from Addicted 2 DIY can attest to this, as she not only (eventually) painted and stained her Tarva 3-drawer dresser, she took its makeover to the extreme by breaking out the power tools and turning it into a bar cabinet, complete
Hate oak cabinetry? Most people these days seem to, or feel that they are expected to hate it. However, the people who own the kitchen pictured above didn't and weren't afraid to admit their preference. They liked oak's "refined rustic/craftsman style." So, when it came time to makeover the space, they were determined to keep it. At least some of it. To make it less overwhelming, the oak flooring was removed and replaced with something much more durable: slate (head over to The Home Depot for some great options of your own). Then, to add contrast, dark green cabinets, matching the style of the old cabinets, were added to the space. This is the what the kitchen looks like now:
When stylist Peter Dolkas decided to re-do the kitchen in his rental, he had no qualms about painting the cabinets. As for his landlord? She didn't know what was happening until after the makeover was
Liz's kitchen island was driving her bananas. Its stained honey oak top just wasn't jiving with the new industrial stools she snagged awhile back. So Liz forked over about 4 bucks and 5 hours of her time
So you have a kitchen that you plan to gut and redo when the funds are available. But that day isn't here yet, and you don't want to invest a lot of money in a kitchen you can't stand but also can't stand to live in either. Then you do what Ms. Squirrelly Mind did and
This makeover might be a head-scratcher for some. I mean, there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with the kitchen "before." And, as a matter of fact, I'm sure it was some peoples' idea of a dream kitchen. It wasn't, however, its owners' idea of a dream kitchen. With the help of designer Becki Owens, they ditched the Tuscan vibe completely. Professionally sprayed
Sara and Charlie's Nashville house may not actually have been the "ugliest house ever", but it was certainly at the top of the goofy list, and it DID need a makeover. The remarkable part of this story isn't even how lovely their home looks "after." Really! The astonishing part is
