Make It: Modern DIY Concrete Fire Pit

We featured 14 DIY fire pit projects last month, but this modern version our partners-in-crime at ManMade created recently was too rad not to share!

Chris walks us through all the steps for making this contemporary concrete fire pit -- from scratch! -- over on ManMade. Check out his tutorial for step-by-step instructions and a supply list.

The pond liner is the best idea size wise....smart thinking!

Cynthia on May 27, 2014:

How about putting it on some sort of heavy duty plant stand with wheels?

Stacey on Mar 08, 2014:

How about using a round pond liner like this one from Lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_93171-1569-PP2607_0__?productId=1112805&Ntt=pond+liner&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dpond%2Bliner&facetInfo= After the concrete is set, it can be rocked to cut the liner off. I would suggest it be formed as close to the final resting place as possible.

Try a restaurant supply store for an XL salad bowl. Save time and call ahead and ask for it's diameter and depth so you don't waste your time  Good Luck!

Chris Gardner on Aug 14, 2013:

@Bethany - So small? It's 17" in diameter, the same size as many commercial steel or iron fire bowls. If it were much bigger, it wouldn't be moveable by a single person, right?

Get some clay and dig bowl

Bethany on Aug 13, 2013:

meh. dissapointed to find out it's sooooo small.... size matters. Now - if I can figure out how to make this but BIGGER than I'm all over it! hmmm.... where to buy giant salad bowls... hmmm.
