Last week, we introduced you to Goil and Tom from TUG Studio, who will be creating a one-of-a-kind product — based entirely on your votes — for the HP Designer Matchup Challenge. Our first round of voting was to determine the type of product and material. Well, your votes have been tallied and the results are in!
Admittedly, as a crazy dog lady, I was hoping “something for my dog/cat” would win. Alas, it wasn’t in the cards. I’m still pretty stoked about the results, though! Are you curious? Yes? Okay, drum roll…
Based on your votes, Goil and Tom will be creating an OUTDOOR/GARDEN product from RECLAIMED/REPURPOSED/UPCYCLED materials! Woohoo!
Now what? Well, our designers have been hard at work sketching and brainstorming! Using an HP TouchSmart PC and Adobe Photoshop CS6, they’ve created 5 possible products, but we need your votes again, Curbliers! Check out their (hilarious) mock-ups below and tell us which one you want Goil and Tom to make — for reals real — and present at New York Fashion Week!
Woodstock Bird House
Woodstock: inverse bird house. Woodstock was a little bird who flew upside-down, so we decided to play with that when making this inverse birdhouse. The other fun titles we thought of were “birds in glass houses don’t throw stones”. Because they don’t. Throw stones, we mean. It has something to do with the lack of opposable thumbs, probably.
Night Torch BYOT
Night Torch BYOT: Moms of America: you aren’t fooling anyone. We all know what goes on at ‘book club’; unless it’s the label, there isn’t a whole lot of reading on. Well fear no more, find your way home via these outdoor torches made from modified empties. Don’t get us wrong; no one is judging. We believe in book club, when else are we going to get to read those books on your top shelf?
Glo Planter
Glo Planter: Evening parties are a lot of fun but there has to be a better way to light them than some modified wine bottle on a stick (Wait, WHAT?). During the day these beautiful boxes hold your favorite varieties of plants at eye level when you are seated. At night, they emit a warm glow (whether it lights the party or patio) and gives a touch of luxury to any outdoor space. It’s like a giant Lego, with plants and lights, and when there are no plants, it can become an impromptu ice chest!
Illum Garden Pavilion
Illum Garden Pavilion repurposes multiple storage units into a greenhouse. The open air ‘room’ turns everyday objects into architecture. It has the ability to enclose multiple specimens of plants and groups of people, providing shade during the day, light in the evening, and absolutely nowhere to keep your shoes.
Terrorarium
Terrorarium: Anyone who has been on a reality show knows the highs and the lows – the preparation, fear, anxiety, and exhilaration of competing on TV. To keep these memorable moments alive, the ‘terrorarium’ uses plants and figurines inside of an upcycled computer monitor. They’re heee-errre.
Ready, set, VOTE!
Voting starts today and ends Wednesday, August 22nd at midnight EST. Check back next week to see how your product is taking shape under the watchful eye and mad-skills of TUG Studio!
