Considering a Home Rehab? Ask These Seven Questions First

by Bruno Bornsztein

This is a guest post from Curbly House partner and real estate investor, Jon Peterson.

If you’re following along with our Curbly House project, you know we’ve just embarked on a pretty ambitious home rehab project. We spent months searching for the right property, and now it’s time for the fun stuff to begin (demo, construction, staging).

Have you ever considered taking on a similar project? It can be a very rewarding experience; you...

Say Hello to the 2017 Curbly House

by Bruno Bornsztein

2017 Curbly House

Y'know, it's weird. For the better part of a decade, Alicia and I have made a living by (I hope) making spaces beautiful. But we've never really embraced that as our job. We've always viewed as "we run a blog, and we get to do room makeovers sometimes, too." This year, we're embarking on a totally different project: a complete home remodel of a property that we don't plan on living in.

See, earlier this year I got to thinking, there are...

You Should Really Buy Some Houseplants (and a House, Too)

by Bruno Bornsztein
The Curbly House (2012)

If you currently don't have houseplants, then maybe you should think about buying a house (remember, last week I talked about why you shouldn't). Then you'll be able to buy some plants for it! But let me back up and explain what I'm getting at:

A houseplant is a pain in the ass. It's something that requires near-constant attention, and rewards that attention with nothing more than the simple act of not dying...

A Magical, Modern Bedroom for Our Growing Girl

by Alicia Lacy

Not so long ago - four years, to be exact - we moved into the Curbly House with one room complete. It was Ayla's room, and it was dunzo, styled, and cozy because she was 3-years-old and going through the double-whammy transition of moving into a new house, and having a new baby brother (all in the span of 10 days!).

Our Makeover: A Modern Boy's Bedroom With A Dash of Adventure

by Alicia Lacy
Little Adventurer Boy's Room Makeover!

Yesterday, we told you all about our plans to make over our little boy's bedroom. Before we get to the big reveal, let's do a mini recap.

We moved into the Curbly House when our son was two weeks old. Because we were insane people who purchased, gutted, moved into, and attempted to furnish and decorate a whole house with a brand new baby, his room was left looking fairly generic.

It's Finished! A Complete Tour of The Curbly House

by Alicia Lacy
Curbly House Tour

This house tour is a long time coming. We've officially been in our "finished" house for one year, and we thought we'd celebrate with a big old fashioned house tour. So we're going to show you the super-clean, polished, sparkly version of The Curbly House...which looked like this exactly once, before we, you know, started living in it again!

Of course, no tour would be complete without a nod to one's roots, so we're posting the 'before'...

Adding Curb Appeal with Simple DIY Landscaping

by Alicia Lacy

The Curbly House has come a long way since we bought it two years ago. From major construction to a whirlwind makeover with the ever-talented Emily Henderson, the interior of the house has been showered with love. But, the outside, not so much.

This spring, we committed ourselves to begin the process of prettying up the outside of our house and creating some much needed curb appeal. While we have a long road ahead that includes having the...

How To: Make a Raised Bed Boulevard Garden Using the Square Foot Method

by Alicia Lacy

How to make a raised-bed boulevard garden

Last month we told you all about our raised bed garden plans, and today we're back with all the juicy details. In a nutshell, this was a huge project in terms of the research and planning, and the easiest when it came time to actually do it. It was a great lesson in "preparation is everything". We're so grateful to Duluth Trading Co. for giving us a motivational kick in the pants to get this project done.

Kicking Off Our Spring Gardening Plans (Plus a $200 Cash Giveaway!)

by Alicia Lacy

DTC Feature Image

We've spent the last two years working on the inside of the Curbly House, and it's high time we started focusing some of our energy on the outside. Specifically, the yard - a space that's in shabby shape after months of construction and damage from heavy machinery. We needed a kick in the pants to get going on the landscaping, and are starting small with a vegetable garden project with the help of Duluth Trading Co.

The Curbly House: Our Dream Mudroom and Laundry Room is Finished!

by Alicia Lacy

Curbly House Mudroom & Laundry Room

Not long ago, when we shared our kitchen renovation with you, we left a little something out. When we began planning our new addition, we decided to add a laundry and mud room off the kitchen to create an entry point with storage and give ourselves the luxury of first-floor laundry. This room has absolutely been the best decision we made during our entire house project. It's simple and straight-forward, but it has brought a tremendous amount of organization and simplicity to our daily home routines.
