As the weather heats up, you can find me poolside every weekend with a good book and probably my giant avocado pool float. Hanging out by the pool is a relaxing luxury, and wouldn’t it be easiest if everything you need is conveniently within reach? Instead of digging through your giant bag for your sunscreen and cell phone, simply pull it out of the side pocket of your own DIY pool lounger organizer! This easy-to-sew organizer lays over the seated part of a pool longer with pockets on both sides for easy access to your most use items. Get ready to lounge extra hard this summer!
I measured my pool longer organizer according to the size of the lounger in my apartment complex. Please note that measurements may vary according to the specific lounger. If you’re concerned about sizing, you can err on the side of caution and make the organizer a little bit longer to account for wider chairs.
Either way, I love how convenient this organizer is when I sit by the pool. Use any combination of outdoor fabrics for best results. After all, you want the organizer to be washable and durable. Lay your towel on top or underneath and enjoy the sunshine!
Materials:
- 1 yard solid outdoor fabric
- 1/4 yard patterned outdoor fabric
- Fabric scissors
- Pins
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Iron (recommended)
Step
Cut two pieces of solid fabric about 42 in x 18 in. Cut two pieces of patterned fabric about 18 in x 8 in. Iron all pieces.
Step
Fold the long edge of both patterned pieces over about 1/2 inch and pin. Sew across to create a clean seam for the top of the pocket.
Step
Pin each pocket piece to both ends of one piece of solid fabric. Set aside the second solid colored piece for later.
Pin where you would like the individual pockets to be. Use everyday items for approximate measurements to ensure items like cell phones or e-readers will fit. Each end can fit 3-4 pockets.
Step
Sew up the sides of the pocket and up multiple sections, back stitching at each end to specify each pocket compartment.
Step
Place the second solid colored piece of fabric on top (right sides together) and pin all the way around, marking a few inches in a corner open with pins. Sew all the way around, leaving the marked section unsewn.
Step
Turn the fabric right side out through the opening and iron seams down.
Step
Lastly, fold in the seam of the open section and pin. Sew a 1/4-inch top stitch all the way around the edge of the pool lounger organizer.
Trim all strings and your new pool lounger organizer is ready to use! Use it at home or take it with you on vacation to hold all of your necessities by the hotel pool. I promise it’s easier than rummaging around in your bag!
