I use my headphones every day, and I carry them to work in my purse, where, despite my best efforts to roll them up carefully, they inevitably intertwine into a balled-up mess. To prevent my headphone from becoming consistently tangled, I made this simple round leather headphone organizer that stores my lightly coiled headphones and slips easily into my purse or just as easily into a large pocket.
Rather than the traditional taco-style headphone organizer, this one works like a pocket, and it’s as easy as cutting and stitching. While it’s very simple, stitching thick leather can be a bit of work, so an extra sharp needle (read: a brand new one) will help ease the work. Simply slide the headphones in and out of the round organizer without any fuss, and they’ll stay in place as long as you need them to!
Materials:
- Brown leather
- Scissors
- Thread
- Hand stitching needle (very sharp)
- Cup for tracing
Step
On the backside of the leather, trace the outline of a cup about 4 inches wide. Trace a second circle.
Step
Cut out the traced circles so that you have two equal sized pieces.
Step
On one circle, place the cup on the edge and trace so that you have a half moon shape that removes about 1/4 of the circle. Cut along this line.
Step
Thread the needle and poke through the bottom of a top corner of the half moon piece, knotting it so that the knot remains on the underside of the leather.
Step
Place the half moon piece on top of the circular piece, aligning the edges, and stitch around to the backside and through to the existing hole where your knot is tied to secure the two pieces together. Then stitch down the circle, poking through both layers of leather carefully.
Step
Continue stitching all the way around the layered portion of the circles in small, even stitches. When you reach the end, poke through both layers, loop around the side and then through only the bottom layer, and tie a knot on the underside to secure. Trim excess thread.
Now you have a little pocket for inserting your rolled up headphones! Carry it around in your pocket or in your bag to keep headphones from tangling but still be able to access them easily.
