We all have a spot in the house that looks a little something like this. Don’t we? It may not be quite as bad as mine was, but I think you get the picture. That before photo was an actual corner of my workspace I had let pile up for way too long. I couldn’t find anything in that stack of bags and boxes anymore. So I partnered with Sauder to cut down on the clutter and tame my workspace.
I knew that in order to get this 4 ft wall in my office organized, I was going to need a decent size bookshelf or some kind of storage solution. So, I visited the Sauder website, and using their expedition design tool, found the soft modern collection, which was right up on my alley.
From there, it was easy to find a bookcase that worked with my minimal modern style, and would also provide the functional storage that I was looking for.
I ended up ordering the tower bookcase in white.
I thought this particular bookcase would help with all the clutter issues I had been having, but also provide a place for me to display my growing prop collection. So, I decide I’d be using it for multiple functions: storage and display.
The flat-packed box came with everything I needed to put the shelf together (tools, screws, etc.). The directions were clear and the tools easy to use, so it didn’t take very long to assemble
I put the whole thing together in less than an hour, which was way faster than I expected. I usually have my husband help me with furniture assembly, so I was pretty proud of myself.
Here’s how the finished shelf came together…
I ended up moving the bulk of the junk previously occupying this corner into a closet, and pulled out the important props (the ones I use on a regular basis) to display on the shelf.
I also emptied out one of the wire baskets (at the bottom of the pile in the before photo) and re-purposed it for all of my decorative papers and wrapping paper.
Now, I see the bulk of my props at a glance and easily access them for styling and DIY projects.
Be sure to check back in the coming months for Part 2 in the Sauder Challenge, where I show you two more ways to use this minimal metal bookcase.
