So fun, right?! This is an incredibly easy project, but there are a few important steps that will help to make this piece look more polished - so read on to find out all the details. Here's what you'll need for this piece:

Begin by putting E6000 glue on the raw ends of each Lack shelf as shown above. Attach them so that they formal a double-length shelf. Be sure to remove any glue that oozes out of the seam, because it will be visible later since the contact paper is so thin. Place a piece of packing tape around the seam and let everything dry for an hour or so.

Assemble the Marius legs according to the instructions, using a wrench to tighten them. Center them on top of the Lack shelves as shown above, and use more packing tape to hold them in place.

Put the plastic white cap that comes with the Marius stool over one of the holes and drill one of your 1.5" wood screws through and into the Lack shelf below. Do the same for all four holes. Now remove as much of the packing tape as you can (especially on the top surface of the table).

Next, cut a piece of contact paper that is 16x18". Position it on top of the table so that there are about two inches of table showing on either end and the contact paper is hanging over the long edges a bit. Place a small piece of tape on either side of the contact paper to keep it in place. Peel half of it back and cut off the backing (shown above). Then fold the contact paper back down, pulling it taut and attaching it to the table. Use a credit card or spatula to smooth out any air bubbles.

Once that half looks good, remove the tape and peel the backing off of the other half. Smooth this half down in the same manner. Smooth the ends down underneath. And that's it... you're finished!

The table is surprisingly sturdy (I probably would put thirty pounds of books on it, but a few are fine!), and it looks quite lovely.

One of the greatest aspects of this piece is that if the contact paper gets dirty, you can simply apply a new layer. One thing to note: this type of contact paper is a bit see-through, so if you have a major stain, you may want to remove the old contact paper and apply a new piece.

You can customize this piece to your liking - swap out the gold paper for a marble finish contact paper, or spray paint the legs a contrasting color.

These would make great bedside tables as well... wherever you need a bit of extra surface space, these would fit the bill. Happy crafting friends!
