Like with a lot of things in life, I find that simple is best when it comes to DIY projects. And these felt garlands are exactly that – they’re simple to make, they don’t require many materials, and they have a classic look which makes them easy to work into the rest of your Christmas decorating. Read on for the easy how-to!
Materials
- Felt
- String (in the same colours as the felt)
- A needle
- Scissors
- Star and moon template
- Pen/pencil
Step 1
Download and print out the star and moon template, then cut out a few of the shapes.
Side note: You don’t have to cut out all the shapes in the template. There are many more in the printable than you’ll need to use – I included them so you had as many shapes as possible to choose from (including ones to make a moon phase garland!). Just cut out the ones you need. 🙂
Step 2
Trace an outline of the shapes you cut out onto your pieces of felt.
Step 3
Cut out each of the traced shapes from the felt. The more shapes you trace and cut, the longer your garland will be.
Step 4
Thread a needle with cotton in the same colour as your felt.
Then feed the cotton through each of your felt shapes, sliding them along the thread to move them up the garland. Keep adding shapes until your garland is long enough to hang.
And we’re done! Simply hang the garlands up on your walls or around your tree for instant festive cheer!
