I Heart Organizing

We’ve been talking about organization all month, and the bathroom is one of the hardest rooms to find extra space – but it’s also super rewarding once it’s done. Here are some tips for curbing the clutter.

Use vertical space – Bathrooms are usually smaller than other rooms, so it’s important to maximize the space that you do have. Use a tall shelving unit like the one above to store towels, toilet paper, cotton balls, Q-tips, etc. If your bathroom is super tiny, try going monochromatic to lessen the visual footprint of the shelf. Find lots of other bathroom organization inspiration over at Decorating Files. The first image at the top of the page shows another way of using vertical storage – by flanking the sink with tall storage cabinets. Maximize your cabinet space – If you have a cabinet underneath your sink, be sure to use every square inch of it. A wire organizer like the one above that slides in and out utilizes all available vertical space, and also makes searching for that extra bottle of shampoo a lot easier since you can see everything. Bed Bath & Beyond has a lot of similar organizational items available here. Find this and other bathroom decluttering tips over at About.com.

Try a Lazy Susan – They aren’t just for the kitchen! You won’t have to dig through a messy pile to find your bottle of Advil, because it will be visible and accessible with just a spin of the wrist. A Lazy Susan would also be great for a nail polish collection, or even cosmetics. Find this and other genius ideas in this article on Diply.com.

Use a bathroom caddy – I love this one. Assemble everything that you use to get ready in the morning into a basket with a handle. That way, you’ll be able to grab everything at once – and put everything away at once. It saves time and eliminates clutter! I would also recommend putting all of your bathroom cleaning supplies in another caddy; this will make cleaning a lot easier, which means that you’re more likely to do it! Use cabinet doors – The back side of a cabinet door is a great place to take advantage of if you’re short on space. Mount flat-backed adhesive cups to the inside of the door to keep your toothbrush and toothpaste off the countertop. Find this and many other clever bathroom organizers over here.

Use the wall too – I have one of these wall-mounted dispensers in my shower, and I can’t tell you how useful it has been. Instead of trying to balance all of my products on the corners of the tub, I fill up my dispenser with shampoo, conditioner and body wash and the tub is instantly clutter free. This way you can buy these items in bulk to save money and keep the large containers outside of the bathroom in a hall closet. Minimizing the number of product labels also gives the room a calmer, more organized feel. Buy the dispenser above here.
