5 Inspiring Trash-to-Treasure Rooms

5 Inspiring Trash-to-Treasure Rooms

We're all busy cleaning and sprucing and organizing this month, and one of the side effects from the Spring-Cleaning bug is we tend to notice that things need a little... updating.  Well, these rooms needed a little more than updating... they needed a complete overhaul and some much needed decorative ingenuity.  Want to take a peek?   The room above, from My World- Made By Hand, was in a sad state of, well, gag.  Lucky for her, she got a room makeover from Mandi of Vintage Revivals and together, the room went from the pity above to the perfection below:

This boring blah living room from Rambling Renovators was a catch-all for cluttery toys for a while.  It is so easy to let boring spaces get messy, isn't it? Happily, it went from this:

to this:

and it feels like a whole new room!

Some of the most neglected spaces are garages, but a little ingenuity can turn an unused garage space found at Design Sponge from exhibit A:

To exhibit Much Better:

as a functioning studio space.  With the price of gas these days, a studio is a much happier alternative to a third car.

It takes some guts to look at a MLS listing and see a dilapidated Master bedroom, and still go through on purchasing the place.  Mandi of Vintage Revivals went in with her sleeves rolled up and transformed her fearsome square footage from this sorry state:

and now I don't think I'd ever leave the space!

Now, how many of us have scary, bottomless closets? {raises hand}  I know for a fact that half the games in our closet are un-playable due to missing (possibly eaten) pieces.

Here's one before and after that shows how those black holes can be organized and functional.

The before was obviously not doing its job, so why not give it a different job entirely?  Like this DIY "cloffice" from Ange at the Blooming Hydrangea. See the full makeover at her site.

When you are tight on space anyway, closets are a good place to start thinking creatively.  Much better than the mess of games from before!

Inspired?  What updates do you have planned in your spaces?

kn, I am the person who's cloffice they featured and if the link where on the post you could see that I moved the games to the closets in our play room.  You can find more info here:  http://www.thebloominghydrangea.com/2011/02/cloffice-reveal.html   I am hoping to receive credit for my cloffice in this post.  Thanks!

obviously if I had a couple of hundred bucks for headboards and wallpaper I could actually act on any of this 'inspiration'.

OK, I like the closet redo to an office, but what did you do with all those games & toys?? That's always a dilemma when you have kids.

I can't wait to redo the backyard of my place. Hedges of bamboo for privacy, new fire pit. it's going to be SUCH a good party spot for the summer. I love rearranging and fixing up places.

My veranda has become the central collection space for bikes, bike parts, bike accessories, shovels and awful hand me down furniture.  :(  It's probably the best space in my house during the warm months.  So that is my big project for the next few weeks.  Going to make it into a fantastic amazing sitting room!!
