Totally DIY-able Outdoor Flip-Down Sideboard

Totally DIY-able Outdoor Flip-Down Sideboard

I am loving this flip-down sideboard from Plow & Hearth. It would be perfect for small outdoor living spaces, and, best yet, it's totally DIYable. A couple of lengths of chain, some hinges and a latch is all we'd need for hardware. I'd shoot the moon and go for ipe for durability, but in covered and semi-covered areas, any species would do. I spotted this item on Apartment Farm but couldn't find it on the P&H website, so I can't tell you if it's still available or how much it cost. But who cares?? We're gonna DIY it!

Adorable! Would love a set of plans, please!

I think you could actually use a ready made shallow cupboard to create something like this. Just turn it on it's side and add a shelf or two and some chains and there you go?

An old kitchen cabinet would work great it would even make a handy work area in the garage

We have put together a plan for this plow and hearth flip down table.  I would be happy to provide much greater detail as needed and will include photos of our own build when they are available.

I am working on putting together a set of plans to build your own version of this item.  I should have something within the next week. If you are interested, please reply to this comment thread and I'll post back once the free plans are available. Great project.

Where is the DIY for this?  I am really interested.  Seems like it could be semi-DIY if you had an old spice rack.

One problem with that Maven...

So many ideas, so little time...

DIY Maven on Mar 20, 2012:

@DM--great idea!

DesigningMom on Mar 19, 2012:

Very DIYable. Made a little bigger and it could work for a small potting station too.

You probably couldn't find it because it's called a wall-mount cabinet on the Plow & Hearth site. For anyone interested, here's the link. Unfortunately, it's currently not available.
