House Cleaning Check List: Free Download

by on Mar 12, 2012

Maintaining a clean home goes far beyond mere aesthetics; it fosters an environment of well-being, comfort, and productivity. It creates a welcoming space for family and guests, and minimizes the risk of allergens and illness.

Here’s our hit list for a clean home in no time! Keep this downloadable cheat sheet handy for when you start your next cleaning party.

Vacuuming

  • Sprinkle your carpet or rugs with baking soda and let rest for fifteen minutes before vacuuming to freshen up your floors.
  • Saturate a rag of essential oil and add it to the collecting bag/container of your vacuum. The scent will diffuse as you run the machine.

Dusting

  • Use a scent-free, electrostatic duster (the kind intended for replaceable floor
dusters) or a microfiber cloth over all flat surfaces. Mist gently with non-toxic glass
    cleaner.
  • Used fabric softener dryer sheets can be used to dust wood, laminate, and glass surfaces.

Cleaning Windows

  • Mix 2 tbs white vinegar in a gallon of water, and use to wipe windows with recycled newspaper.
  • Using a squeegee will prevent electro-static cling, which attracts dirt and dust to clean windows.

Polishing

  • Mix a few drops of essential oil of lemon with olive oil and polish wood furniture.
  • Wax wood furniture with a chamois and a bit of beeswax.

Remove Odors

  • Use hot or cold oil diffusers rather than spray chemicals.
  • Douse cotton balls in essential oils and place in the air vents and intake ducts of your heating and cooling system.
  • Make your own spray air freshener by mixing distilled water and 15-20 drops of your favorites citrus essential oils. Try a combo of lemon, lime, and grapefruit.

Your Cleaning Kit

  • All-purpose cleaner (solution of 1 tbs mild dish soap and 1 cup water)
  • A stronger cleanser, like Borax
  • Glass cleaner (see ‘Windows’)
  • Rubber gloves
  • Lint-free cloths
  • Bristled scrubbing brush
