This DIY idea comes from Bel Rossa Boutique, a blog and Etsy shop featuring hand-crafted textiles created from salvaged materials.  Inspired by the book "Layered, Tattered and Stitched" by Ruth Rae, these denim canvases are pretty simple to make (although a little time consuming)!

While there isn't a tutorial on Bel Rossa, she suggests cutting your denim into strips and then sewing them one-by-one onto a fabric backing, working in layers.  I imagine after that all you would need to do is stretch your creation onto a canvas and--voila!  Whether you take a stacked or sunburst approach, the effect is pretty neat!  What do you guys think?

YTou can also stitch or fabric glue the strips of denim from worn out jeans onto a fabric backing and use as a door mat/shoe mat.  Put wavy line of bathroom caulk on the back to help with slip-resistence.

Thank you Decomamma!

absolutely great idea:)
