Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, which means we have another great excuse to decorate our mantels (as if we even need an excuse!). Today I’m sharing an easy mantel setup using x’s and o’s… and lots of ’em. Click through to find out how to make the different elements of this fun display. Â
Some pieces of this mantel setup are store-bought, and some are handmade. Here’s what you’ll need:
Materials
Â
- x’s and o’s from the craft store (be sure to raid the sale bin, keeping in mind that you can paint them a different color)
- Spray paint
- Scissors
- Metallic cardstock
- Large xoxo computer printout in your favorite font
- Alphabet stickers
- White chalk marker
- Scrap wood
- Sharpie (not pictured)
- Gold votives
- Flowers with clear vasesÂ
For the pink xoxo board, place large alphabet stickers on a piece of scrap wood and spread them out evenly across the board.
Â
Use pink spray paint to cover the wood, doing two light coats. Let the first coat dry thoroughly before you do the second one.
Â
For the metallic x’s and o’s, print out an x and an o in your favorite font and cut them out. Trace around them on a piece of gold cardstock using a Sharpie marker. Cut them out.
Â
Next, draw x’s and o’s on a piece of scrap wood using a white chalk marker (or a white paint marker would work too). Feel free to use the same computer printout technique as before if you’re not confident in your freehand writing.
Â
The last step is to arrange all of the elements on your mantel. Place the largest items first, in this case the two wooden boards. Next, place your flowers so they look balanced across the mantel.Â
Â
Then place the rest of the items among the flowers, spreading out the brighter more colorful elements. Add the votives last.
Â
Light the votives and you’re ready for a fun Valentine’s Day celebration. The final result is really quite festive and colorful, with a warm inviting glow thanks to the votives.
Â
This would be perfect for a Valentine’s Day date night or a Galentine’s Day party with the ladies. Have fun!
