How-To: Woven Rug using a Cardboard Loom

by on Nov 14, 2014

Sara Plath Every time I come across a weaving project I’m reminded how incredibly awesome weaving actually is. Sara Plath was able to take a piece of cardboard, some strands of rope, and a few pom poms, and turn them into a beautiful bohemian rug for her bathroom.

What’s great about this project is that regardless of your personal taste, you can use this method with just about anything (old sheets, yarn, feather boas, etc)! You might even have everything you need in your home right now. And with cold weather on its way, there’s no time like the present to add another rug to your home.

I like it, but Free People posted a tutorial on this in May 2011 – so it isn’t new.

    I love it.
You did a good job and I’m going to try to do something like this ( I don’t have your talents)…

Were all the different pieces of fabrics tied together to create one super long rope, or were they just left loose? Also, how was the base created, and how was the last piece of fabric tied off, so that the rug would stay together? Awesome project, can’t wait to try it out! Thanks for posting!

So what TulumChica…weaving has been around for AGES…of course it isn’t new. You could have just commented that you liked it and left out the rest.

Am I supposed to remove the cardboard when I am done? I figure but want to check. And can these be washed without unraveling?
