Oh Scandinavia. Why you got to be so awesome?
Nordic folks
know a thing or two about winter, what with 20 hours of darkness and
months of temperatures that will kill you. They manage to say yahboo to
the most rubbish of seasons with the best Christmas/winter decorations
ever. And now, so can you… in two price ranges!
Ikea Light chain with three lights, $8.99
Scandinavian design star light, $61.17 (ex. tax),
Ikea Kallt people decoration, $3.99
Santas in a row, $28.62 (ex.tax)
And
I absolutely love these little fellows here, See the thingy at the top?
I t is spun by the hot air rising from a lit candle. See cute and
sciency! They’re $7.34 (ex. tax) and come in lots of different designs
Then there’s the tradition of the Yule goat, Wiki says, “In older Scandinavian
society a popular prank was to place the Yule Goat in a neighbour’s
house without them noticing; the family successfully pranked had to get
rid of it in the same way”. These days towns have massive Yule goats that are sneakily set on fire.
Which I’m sure you’ll agree is far cooler than sanitised mall displays.
