Vintage Leather Belts = Floor Tile

By: Diy maven Aug 03, 2010

Designer Inghua Ting makes some very beautiful things out of salvaged materials. One of them is floor tile fashioned out of vintage belts. Her in-house artisans sift through the available belts, using about one out

of four available to them, as they only use belts of the highest quality to make the tiles. If you're wondering about wear-ability, the tiles, according to Ting, stand up about as well as a wood floor. If owners would want to revive the leather tiles, they just need wax them and they'll look 'good as new'. At $75 a square foot, it's not the most inexpensive floor covering by a long shot, but it is beautiful and quite unique. To read more about the tile and Ting, follow this jump to 3rings.

These are amazing.

OK here goes... After reading the link and looking at the picts I think if you where to attach belts to pieces of vinyl floor tile using a good heavy duty glue (Barge?) then careful triming you would have the same look. you could even bevel the edges of each tile to make them more sculptural. You would have to be generous with the glue to get total adhesion. The trick would be to get a whole bunch of good leather belts, no vinyl or plastic. Then finish with a super sealer for wet places, something marine grade. I will now be collecting leather belts! ;-)

I think this would be totally DIYable. Thrift shops have lot's of belts for very reasonable especially if you catch it on 1/2 price days. This, the paper idea keep 'em coming I've got to redo the bath, kitchen...on and on.
