How to Make Inspirational ‘Stones’

by on Dec 1, 2008

Here’s an easy way to make inspirational ‘stones’.

To make them, you’ll need:

  • Flat 20mm (or about 3/4″) marbles–colored might work, but clear seems the best choice
  • Inspirational words printed on regular old printer paper in an appropriate-sized font
  • 3/4″ paper punch, optional but it makes things MUCH easier
  • Modge Podge & small paint brush

First punch (or cut) your words from the paper.

Brush a coat of Modge Podge on the flat bottoms of the marbles.

Fix the circles to the bottoms of the marbles–words up, of course. The Podge will leak out the sides a bit, but that’s good. That way you can push the sides of the paper up the curved sides of the marble to make sure it’s stuck well.

After they’ve dried completely, put another coat  or two of Podge over the backside of the circles. Wipe off any dried glue on the top or sides of the marble with a damp cloth or paper towel.

I think these would look lovely scattered on tables at a wedding dinner or reception. Besides ‘love’, of course, other good words for such an occasion might be ‘friends’ and ‘family’. The guests could take them as favors at the end of the event. An alternative way to display your inspirational stones would be to glue magnets on the back and put them on the refrigerator.

  1. I love this idea! I will make them and include the inspiring words “love”, “wish” and “dream” and insert them in little thank you favor boxes for my son’s beach wedding. I’m putting together “Welcome to our Wedding Weekend” gift bags for our guests. Thank you! Just what I was looking for!!!

  2. Nice idea. I gave these a try. If I were to do it again, I would take it a step further and use the see-through clear address labels to print the words.
