Carpet tiles have been around for a while now, but there's always been one limitation: they're square!  If you love the idea of utilizing this flexible floor covering in your home but want a playful dot instead of the standard square, you're in luck.  Check out how to make your own circular carpet tile rug below!

Tyler Goodro, one of our favorite bloggers and modern DIY guru, recently put together this tutorial for cutting a round rug from carpet tiles.  Once you've done some preliminary measuring, it's a pretty simple task.  Here's what you'll need:

  • carpet tiles (Tyler used tiles from Flor)
  • box cutter
  • L-shaped metal to use as your 'cutting arm'
  • cardboard boxes to use as a cutting surface/to protect your floors
When you're ready to ditch the square and embrace the circle, hit up Plastolux for the full tutorial!

@ Jeff W: It's the DSR chair by Eames. You can find several reproductions from several brands like Vitra (the expensive ones),..  But here are some websites with a couple reproductions I found when searching for your answer: http://www.dominidesign.com/gb/design-chairs.html , http://www.retrofurnish.com/stoelen.html?___store=en&___from_store=nl .

The CHAIRS! The chairs in this picture! Please oh please tell me where they came from. I have only found similiar designs in white and expensive in too many hours of google searching. I desperately want colored and cheap. :)

Thank you for posting this.  I have actually been looking for a round rug for about 12 months.  I haven't really found a pattern (material) that I like, but is also affordable.  I was just thinking the other day, "I wonder if I could cut carpet."  This is a MUCH better idea.  Thanks again, Curbly, for serving as a clearinghouse for what's out on the web!
