Dark and dated. That about sums up this 1950’s California kitchen. For the budget redo, the cabinets stayed, with a little modification. That being the removal of those separating the working area from the breakfast nook and applying paint (soft green-gray on the bottom and crisp white on the uppers). Ceasarstone “Blizzard” countertops replaced the old tile countertops.
Glass tile backsplash, some wallpaper and (it appears) a new tile floor round out the big stuff. Now, that sounds like a lot of changes to be considered a ‘budget’ makeover, but as the space’s footprint wasn’t change and the cabinets removed/replaced, it probably was, comparatively speaking. Be that as it may, there’s a good amount of inspiration here for the DIYer.

Gorgeous! New hardware and light fixtures round off this really nice job. It inspires me to look past older homes because they are dated.
