Pink can be a polarizing color. Many feel that it can be overly feminine, or too juvenile. But in my opinion, the positive qualities of pink far outweigh the negative ones. So today I’m attempting to show why this surprisingly versatile color can (and should!) be used in more than just the nursery.

Pink can be very calming. Certain shades of pink can have a relaxing effect, especially lighter hues. For this reason, it can be a great choice for a bedroom – it can help lull you to sleep while simultaneously infusing your space with a unique sensibility. The owner of the room above took it a step further and decided to paint only up to a certain point, giving the room an ĂĽber cool vibe.

Pink can be deliciously retro. Other shades of pink, particularly ones with yellow undertones, can look quite vintage. This makes those tones the perfect choice for those of us who love mid century modern furniture or other old school looks. Imagine the room above with white walls instead… so much less interesting!

Pink makes a gallery wall pop. Here, a pale pink accent wall provides a punch of color on which to display a handful of beautiful works of art. It warms up the room too, inviting people toward that side of the room.

Pink pairs well with almost all neutrals. There’s something about pink that gives it the ability to pair well with practically every neutral. It looks great with gray, white, cream, tan, gold and even navy blue (if you consider that a neutral like I do). Thanks to this quality, it makes an excellent accent color.

Pink adds personality. Certain shades of pink (ahem, neon magenta) add some serious character to a room. There’s nothing subtle about this hue, and it makes the space completely memorable. The same goes for most darker, saturated shades.

Pink is inviting. Other lighter hues of pink can feel very welcoming. The soft, cozy quality is palpable in this living room. Don’t you just want to dive onto that couch and read a book? The less saturated the better, if this is your goal.
