How to: Bright and Colorful Geometric Grilling Organizer

by on Sep 26, 2014

My partner and I recently moved from San Francisco to Portland, Oregon. After living in such a small space in SF for years, we’re excited to spread out a bit in our new space. One thing that we’ve really missed is having a backyard…so the first thing we did when we arrived is buy a grill!

We wanted to use paint to bring a little personality into our space, as well as stay organized, so we teamed up with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape to make a colorful grill tool organizer…

What you’ll need:

  • ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape for Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2093EL
  • ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Exterior Surfaces 2097
  • Pegboard
  • Spray Paint
  • Drill
  • Screws, spacers, finish washers
  • Proper safety gear

Start by taping off your design. For crisp lines, run your hand over the edge of the tape to smooth out any bumps before painting.

I chose a to make a diamond pattern but the possibilities here are endless. You could do stripes, triangles, squares, etc.

Start painting. To avoid the unwanted speckling of paint, use a piece of cardboard to shield the areas you want to protect.

Once you finish, peel tape and let dry.

To give your grill tools a pop of color, tape off the ends with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2093EL and paint.

You’ll want to leave space between the wall and the pegboard so that you can hang hooks with ease. You can buy a pegboard mounting kit, or just buy the individual spacers. When drilling, the order should be: spacer, pegboard, finish washer, screw.

Although I’m no grill master, I’m happy this project added some much needed color to our deck. Plus, when we take the tools to wash them, we’ll be left with a fun piece of art instead of a plain pegboard.
