Getting a high end look on a budget is totally possible. All you need is a little elbow grease. Let’s break down this gorgeous foyer by Muse Interiors to see how you can recreate it.
The main elements that make the space are: painted stripes on the wall, the sunburst mirror, the stripped wood furniture, the architectural details and the pops of color.
First up the walls. All it takes is some painters tape and some patience. The faint color difference between the white and the pale taupe adds sophistication and the vertical stripes make the room appear taller. Kate of Centsational Girl has several links to great tutorials.
Next up? The mirror. You can actually DIY your own version with paint sticks! Kristen made one and I love how she turned the sticks on their edge. It really gives it more dimension and texture.
Now that that’s done, it’s time to strip some furniture! The inspiration room pairs a traditional console with an oriental upholstered stool. I say, raid Craigslist for a console in either style and choose a bench in the opposite style. I found this console table in San Francisco’s Craigslist for $90 that would be perfect.
I stripped a bed down to its natural, raw surface and there’s no easy way to do it. In fact, it’s a totally painful process—not gonna lie. But the result is amazing! Make sure to seal it with paste wax or liming wax, if you prefer more of a pickled effect.
Architectural details like molding make the space feel more detailed and expensive, so add some to the lower half of the walls. Randy explains how he did it in his own dining room.
Don’t forget the awesome stool. The x-bench I found is from Wisteria. Despite the fact that you’ll never sit in it, it adds a pleasing visual layer.
Finally grab some accessories in blue and orange. I found the blue foo dogs on ebay, the blue vases at Zgallerie and the horn box at Williams-Sonoma. (Look for faux horn, it’s kinder to the animals.) Add some inexpensive orange alstroemeria from the grocery store and you have a hallway ready to welcome anyone!
