How To Copy This California Kitchen Makeover

by on Oct 19, 2010

Well, it’s not a Before and After because we don’t have the Before photos. All I know is that this California kitchen belonging to Samantha and Barry Nugent is not only stunning, but you can copy some of these elements to get a similar look. The design is simply impeccable. I would be out there painting my kitchen cabinets gray tonight if I didn’t have that gosh darn black granite. Cococozy got a tour of the The Nugents’ 1929 Spanish remodel. Her pictures are always beautiful and always make me want to ditch my house.

Let’s see; the sink extravaganza may be a hard copy. It’s modeled after Ina Garten’s sink area for The Barefoot Contessa. It would be a challenge to run out to Lowes and pick up this ensemble. The high arched Koehler kitchen faucet accomodates large pots as well as medium sized dogs or kids.

Kitchen sink with five stainless steel taps.

The schoolhouse lights, gray cabinets, wood floors are all do-able. You could sub in some less expensive island top rather than using white marble.

A white kitchen has a flower on the island.

This is so easy to do in cabinet doors. About seven years ago, I cut out rectangular openings in two of my upper cabinet doors and had this same reeded glass put in, but horizontally.A tumbler is in the rack.

Well, what can I say here? I don’t know how you could copy this behemoth.

"A Kitchen design that is simply impeccable"

More looks you can copy:  knobs, refrigerator hidden behind cabinet doors, a white dutch door (we truly do have a white dutch door in our kitchen), the aluminum stools and more.

Click on over to Cocozy’s exclusive kitchen tour to see more of this gray and white kitchen makeover.  So clear, so crisp, so visually delectible.

Copying this look in your own kitchen is one thing, but the real creative credit goes to homeowner Samantha Nugent, her architect, Tom Newman of Newman and Wolen and contractor Gregory Greenwood. It takes alot to make it look so simple.
