I recently became an aunt again. I’ve made baby quilts and mobiles for all three of my brother’s kids. The first one was a drift wood and sea shell one and then I made a birch bark and birdy one, but for this third baby I made a brightly colored quilt in triangles, so I wanted to continue that theme with the mobile.Â
A few supplies from the craft store, a drill and some craft paint, and I had a mobile made in about an hour. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 8 wooden triangles (these are 3 1/2 inches, found at the craft store
- 12″ piece of dowel
- 5 small brass eyes
- craft paint
- painters tape
- drill and bits
- brass ball chain and clasps (found in the jewelry section at the craft store)
I like this mixture of wood, bright colors and a little brass. Â I played with hanging the triangles with string, yarn and twine, but decided the piece needed a little something shiny. Â The chain worked great and it hangs really nicely. Â
Start by drilling 5 very small holes for the eyes.  Three along on the bottom of the dowel, two on either end and one in the middle.  And then drill two more hole on the top for hanging the mobile.
Screw in the eyes.
Stack the wooden craft triangle in groups of 4.
Tape the triangle together tightly so that you can drill more then one at a time.
Drill one hole in each corner of the triangles.
Remove the tape and then tape off half the triangle down the middle.
Paint half of the triangles with craft paint. Â Always paint away from the tape to ensure clean tape lines.
Remove the tape and decide where you want your triangle to hang.
Using small sections of chain, hang the triangles are different lengths.
And now hang it somewhere it can get some movement.
I love the use of brass ball chain. Gives it some real class!
