  • Polymer Clay
  • Rolling pin
  • Sharp cutting tool (I used a kitchen knife)
  • Straw
  • Oven safe bowl
  • Twine or Cord
  • Small house plant

Step

Begin by rolling out your clay to about a 1/4 inch thickness. You can choose to mix colors if you so choose for a marble effect.

Step

Place a small to medium bowl face down over the clay.

Step

Using a sharp knife or cutting tool, firmly cut a circular shape using the bowl as your guide. Remove bowl and set aside. Carefully take your clay and drape it over the bottom of the bowl. You may need to shape and form it to your bowl so that it doesn’t crinkled. You edges won’t be perfect, but that’s ok.

Step

Using a straw, create three holes evenly dispersed around the clay. This will be how you hang your clay once it’s baked.

Step

Place the bowl onto a cooking tray and place into the oven according to baking directions. Once your clay has baked, remove from oven and allow to sit and cool completely. Once cooled, use a small section of card stock or card board to slide carefully between the clay and bowl all around the entire circumference. This is the tricky part, so be careful! Clay should pop right off the bowl once you make that small space between the two.

Step

Cut your three strands of cord or twine as long as you prefer, depending on how low or high you would like it to hang.

Step

Pull each strand of cord through the holes and make a large knot that’s big enough that it won’t slip through the hole.

Step

Secure a knot at the top with all three strands.

Step

Place your plant and soil carefully in the planter. Simply hang and enjoy!
