Dumpster Swimming Pools

by on Jul 21, 2010

Last night I heard Letterman say something about dumpster swimming pools in his monologue (Colbert’s on vay-cay). I thought it was a made-up notion, but it isn’t! Apparently, last year in Brooklyn people were taking dips in dumpsters. This year Mayor Bloomberg will open three dumpster pools on the east side of Park Ave. between 40th and 41st. According to Inhabitat, “Each dumpster pool will be approximately 8-feet-wide and 22-feet-long, with a sloped bottom between 3 and 5 ½ feet deep, and despite their dubious name, they will be clean, fully lined, and equipped with a water filtration system.” Gives a new meaning to ‘dumpster diving’, eh?
