10 Inexpensive Ways to Boost the Value of Your Home Before Selling

by on Jun 23, 2010

If you haven’t heard, we’re in a buyer’s market. That’s great news if you’re shopping for a home; not so good if you need to sell your home. As a seller, you need to make your property stand out among all the others in the neighborhood. However, doing so doesn’t mean having to invest a ton of cash into the place. Here are 10 common sense tips to improve the value of your home before you sell it, and make it stand out in the crowd.

  1. Curb appeal. Stand out in your street or in the hallway, and sweep a critical eye over things.
  2. Declutter. Clutter is not only distracting to a potential buyer, it makes rooms look smaller.
  3. Clean. Obvious…but not to all!
  4. Paint. Think fresh and neutral.
  5. Master Bedroom/Bathroom. Strive for the ‘retreat’ look.
  6. Update the Kitchen. Only do what you can afford.
  7. Storage. Clean out closets and cabinets; they’ll look bigger.
  8. Light. Clean windows, replace blown out light bulbs.
  9. Get a Home Inspection. Find out what’s wrong by an unbiased professional.
  10. Senses. Use the five senses to appeal to a potential buyer.
