It’s easy for the kitchen to get disorganized. For me it happens when I’m in a hurry to put stuff away–groceries, dishes, linens. That’s why it’s not a bad idea to take a critical peek inside your drawers, cabinets and closets every now and again. To help us get our galleys in ship-shape we turn to Real Simple’s 24 Smart Organizing Ideas for Your Kitchen.

  1. Keep sticky and spill-able items on easy-to-clean surfaces, like lazy Susans. (Here’s my own little tip for the pepper grinder, which always has a habit of sifting pepper all over cupboard where it’s stored: Invert an appropriately-sized jar lid under it. The lid will contain the ‘pepper dandruff’.)
  2. Exposed recipe books look cool, but make sure they’re not exposed to humidity or grease.
  3. Exposed aprons and pot holders can look cool, especially mounted on sweet pegs.
