How To: Make Mod Solar Lamps for the Garden

by on Jun 25, 2014

Houzz My girl Shelly never ceases to amaze me. Usually my amazement stems from her fabulous upholstery projects, but, in this case, it comes from inflatable balls and string. This particular project started with DIY salvage (string globes and plumbing pipes). Shelly decided to marry them and create a trio of glorious glowing solar lamps for her garden. Items you’ll need to make them from scratch include the following (it isn’t a short list, but most of it you’ll probably have on hand):

  • Three ¾-inch by 4-foot plumbing pipes
  • Three ¾-inch to 1-inch reducer couplings
  • 3 solar landscaping lights
  • Three inflatable plastic balls
  • Decoupage liquid (aka: Mod Podge)
  • String or twine
  • Gloves (optional)
  • Marker
  • Circle pattern (4-inch to 5-inch in diameter)
  • Plastic container
  • Metallic exterior spray paint
  • Hammer
  • Scissors
  • Foam paintbrushes (optional)

BTW, these globes look fabulous nestled inside vessels too. Perhaps 3 clustered together in a large planter?
