Craft Quickie: Bottle Necklaces

by on Apr 18, 2007

Two bottle necklaces, one blue and one gray, with necklaces over the top of the necks.

Here’s a fun and fast way to dress up bottles.

What you need:

Chain. I found 100 inches of silver chain at my local craft store for about $3.50.

Jump rings. I used the larger, 1/4″ size.

Beads and/or charms.

A small side cutter.

What you do:

Cut a length of chain with the side cutter. The length will depend on the height and girth of your bottle. Just drape the chain around the bottle’s neck to determine the size.

Attach a jump ring to one end of the chain.

Ornamental, lightweight and white-colored chain.

Slip opposite end of chain through jump ring.

Attach a jump ring and bead or charm at this end of the chain as well. (For the white bottle, I attached multiple jump rings and beads.)

A chain with a bead are on a grey fabric.

Drape your necklace over the bottle.

Three bottles of different colors and sizes wearing decorative bottle necklaces around their necks.

For the more ambitious, drill a small hole in a coin and use it for a charm. A great gift for someone moving, give them a bottle of wine with a necklace adorned with a state quarter depicting the state to which they are moving. A trip of a lifetime coming up? This idea would make a great bon voyage gift too. And for birthdays and anniversaries, use coins with special dates.
