Joy's Circles of Blankety Goodness

A chum of mine has just finished this lovely bit of loveliness:

It's a blanket made of knitted circles with crocheted edges. Joy has been working on it for an age, and says that while the pattern (which she learnt at The Knit Cafe here in Toronto) is simple it is labour intensive, as it takes 300(!) circles to make a good-sized blanket.  But  what a great, fun, and elegant  way to use up scraps of yarn.

Super Pretty Fabric Knobs

Table Jewellery, Use What You Have

What is it about this time of year that makes folks want to dress up their tables? For 9 months of the year bunging down a plate and some cutlery and chowing down is just fine for me, but from thanksgiving to new year that just doesn't seem to cut it. I want pretty and festive and shiny and this year I also want cheap.

So, in the spirit of 'use what you have' I raided my jewellery box and dragged out my accessories to dress up my table.

It's all about the Cherry Blossom....

It's Hanami or Cherry Blossom viewing season in Japan, it's a pretty big deal, the essence of it is:

"Wow. Check out the pretty Cherry Blossoms... are they not an excellent reminder of the fragility of life and the temporary nature of existence?..."

"Yes, they so totally are... now pass the Sake."

In honour of the season I made this:
