Here's a final project attempting to recycle old ballpoint pens. (Here's my first, and a second.)

DIY Tool Shelf (Using Old Pens!)

Materials:

  • 10 used ball point pens
  • 1” Select Grade Pine, in the following sizes: 17x6” (back), 17x3 1/4” (shelf), 3 1/4 x 2” (x2) (shelf supports)
  • Wood glue and short bar clamps
  • 10 - 1 1/2” Wood screws
  • Electric drill and masking tape or drill press
  • 3/8” drill bit
  • Phillips driver bit
  • Drill bit for pilot hole and countersink
  • 1” spade bit
  • Utility Knife

DIY Sewing Caddy (Made From Used Pens)!

Materials:
    12 used ball-point pens
    Three pieces of 1” hardwood: 11 1/2 x 4 1/4”; 11 1/2 x 3”; 11 1/2 x 1 3/4”
    Wood glue
    Bar clamps
    Electric Drill and Masking Tape or Drill Press
    1/8” Drill bit
    3/8” Drill bit
    Wire cutters

1. Cut (using a miter saw or miter box) or have the wood cut to size.

I recently was given several boxes of ball-point pens, so here's the first of several projects towards their re-use.

DIY Sprinkler (Using Recycled Materials)!

Materials:
    1 20oz plastic bottle with cap
    1 universal male hose attachment (about $1.25 at the hardware store)
    15 used ball point pens
    Plumbing contact adhesive and sealant (such as Plumbing Amazing Goop)
    Electric drill
    3/8” drill bit
5/8” (or other) spade bit
Calipers or measuring tape
Utility Knife

Total Cost: $4.49...
