I don't know what it's like where you live, but the weather here has been utterly schizophrenic lately. Take yesterday for example: highs in the 60s during the middle of the day, then snow by 8pm! Madness. To make it through Winter's last desperate attempts to bring me down, I'm focusing my thoughts on all the sunny days of Summer that lie ahead. And, what could be more suitable for such a daydream than a roundup of 5 totally gorgeous, modern swimming pools? Not much.
So a Chevron rug walks into a bar. He is at once taken by the beauty of Miss Modern Color Palette, who, with her deep navy blues and soothing slate grays, is simply oozing contemporary charm.
AirBnB.com is a service that helps connect people who have homes, apartments, or spare rooms to rent. On principle, I love the idea (why bother with hotels when you can stay in a real person's house?), but in practice, I have to admin results are mixed. We used AirBnB for a trip to New York City last year, and the place wasn't nearly as nice as the pictures made it out to be.
Still, if you just want to window shop, AirBnB is one of the best places on the Web to get tours of amazing living spaces around the world. Here are some of my recent, modern-ish favorites:
Planters are not the first things we think of when we're decorating a room. However, the wrong container for that ficus can blow the look we strove so hard to complete. Here's a loverly selection of stylish and DIYable planters that would be at home in an modern or MCM environment.
First up is the Case Study Ceramic Cylinder Planter
It is no secret that the "ranch" was the go-to architectural style of the 1950's. Check out how this family decided to update their Ranch home for an eclectic, modern feel.

You've probably seen bottle cap magnets before or maybe even made a few yourself. (I have one of a Miniature Schnauzer on my fridge that my nephew lovingly picked out for me from the local craft fair. It's awesome.) But, have you seen MCM-inspired bottle cap magnets?? Yeah, that's what I thought!

The owner is Debbie Glassberg and its location is Kansas City, MO. So what do you think? Too shipping-container-y or a feat of genius? Scroll down for a peek inside!!
This month we're talking about the idea of 'modern' design; what is it, how it's changing, what does it mean? Here are some of the best modern design posts from the Curbly archives. Which one is your favorite?

In my opinion, the most loved and easily recognized and furniture designers of the Mid-Century are Charles and Ray Eames. Together, they had the Midas touch when it came to home furnishings; if the Eames' designed it, it became a classic.
If you aren't lucky enough to own an actual Eames Chair of any variety, how about using their images as decor?
The Pritchett family, in ABC's Modern Family, have a super sleek and modern dining room. Today we're going to capture the style for ourselves but on an IKEA budget.
I'm a lover of all things modern with an absolute (and nearly uncontrollable) weakness for textiles. So when I heard that April was modernism month here at Curbly, I knew a roundup of bold, drool-worthy rugs was certainly in order! Of course, it would be easy to show you eye popping designs that go to the tune of $3k and up, but where's the fun - or reality - in that? Instead, I'll show you 25 beautiful, budget-friendly rugs that'll look great in any modern, contemporary, or transitional space for less than $200! Ready? Let's go!
It's April 1st and that means the official kick off of Modern Month here at the Curb. (No foolin'.) To start us off right, I thought I'd round up a bunch images of the quintessential modern coffee table from Isamu Noguchi in their natural habitats. Enjoy!
From builder-grade to fabulous, this orange-veneered chipboard kitchen gets a modernized and inviting makeover!
When we think of castles, the last adjective that comes to mind is 'modern', but that's just what this castle is, modern. Very. Construction of the Villa Diricks, located in Brussels, was completed in 1933. Its architect was Marcel Leborgne, "one of the founders of Modernism
Until my dream of living in a Scandinavian Modern cabin comes to fruition, I'll just be content with simple flourishes of inspired decor and accessories like this rustic modern coat stand. It's a gorgeous little piece that packs a big ol' Scandinavian punch - and its DIY rating is off the charts.
For whatever reason, the portfolio of New York-based photographer Chris Cooper is chock full of architectural images taken in Texas... and you can just feel the sun shining through. I promise, after a good browsing session of Cooper's work you'll be feeling inspired - and itching for Summer! Try it.
