5 Painted Staircases That Will Blow Your Mind

...Or melt your face.  Either one.

So, we live in a townhome right now that is covered with really awesome wall-to-wall carpeting.  And by "awesome" I mean "nasty".  We have a staircase that's covered in this unfortunate material as well, and I've always wanted to rip it up and see what's going on under there.  In my fantasy world, it would be lovely wood in need of some minor sprucing up, which I could then go buck wild on with some colorful paint.

5 More Fabulous Headboard Schmedboard Alternatives

Photo:Moises Esquenazi & Associates

Yeah yeah, we've all seen enough headboards, right? Well, imagine this long upholstered headboard with a queen sized bed in front of it and two sparse, but interesting side tables on either side of it. It would function as a headboad, of course, but also as wall art across a wide expanse of wall. That's been on my drawing board for a long time, and now someone has gone and done it. As usual  Cococozy has compiled a nice little assortment of fantastic photos of  yet more headboard alternatives for your consideration.

A peek inside Jeff Lewis's portfolio

A peek inside Jeff Lewis's portfolio

There's three things I know for sure about Jeff Lewis from Bravo's Flipping Out. 1. He adores his animals, 2. he's a control freak and 3. his designs are gorgeous. Whenever I see one of his completed projects, I get the feeling Jeff might just be my brother from another mother or something. I could move in to any of his flips and feel as if it were designed with me in mind. Oh, Jeff, dear Jeff, if you're

IKEA Breaks Loose

IKEA Breaks Loose

Yup! IKEA has gone all Anthropologie on us. Not surprising. If you pull back a bit and see the natural ebb and flow of design trends, we all saw this coming. The beauty of reading the design blogs is that you get to see the front edge of a trend about two years before it hits stores. In this case, it's hard to tell whether the Artsy crowd influenced Anthropologie, or the other way around. Anthropologie was on the scene, like, immediately! Now that IKEA's making the switch, you may want to see shades of things to come. IKEA's stylist, Lo Bjurulf set up some fab photos for the new catalogue, take a look at The LOOK...

Mid-Century Modern Original Interiors

Mid-Century Modern Original Interiors

Nothing beats illustrations or photography of original mid-century modern interiors. The grainy pictures, the comic-book quality of the drawings, it's all quite marvelous. Not only are they entertaining to look at, they're also inspirational. And what better way to be inspired to design your MCM home than to look at original images from the period? That being said, I've perused images on the internets for some examples. Here's some juicy ones.

My Showroom Tour of Room & Board, Part 3

In this the 3rd and final installment devoted to my recent tour of Room & Board, we consider the living room. If there were any question of the retailers ability to bridge the gap between mid-century with the 21st, these vignettes answers it. That’s because their 21st century designs are presented with the likes of Eames, Noguchi, Nelson and Wegner to name just a few. And on those occasions when the masters’ creations don’t make an appearance in the R & B living room vignettes, their influence is felt.

My Showroom Tour of Room & Board, Part 2

In part one of this series devoted to my recent tour of Room & Board, we were introduced to the retailer’s ‘livable modern’ aesthetic. The same quality and craftsmanship we discussed yesterday travels with us today as we move from the dining room into the bedroom. This time we’re going to start with the ground up, or, more accurately, the mattress up.

You won’t find any box springs on the Room & Board showroom floor, as all their bed...

DIY: Leather Rug and Tiles Made From Old Belts

Enough of Christmas aleady! Dudecraft got my creative juices flowing today with this post of a round floor covering made from recycled, old belts. Frankly, I think these are brand new belts made to look vintage. Old belts would be very wavy.

This can be done, however.  I've made all sorts of things with belts. One summer I volunteered at our State Fair to help out in a booth that did some amazing leathercrafting. Now this is something I can use! Check out the leather floor tiles

Hang Can Vases for Art

Photo Image: Easy DiY at Home

Blank walls sometimes make us so nervous that we run out to Pier One or World Market and buy generic pictures to cover the blankness. Ick! If you're scared to pick up a paintbrush and a blank canvas, this simple idea from Easy DiY at Home  shows you a simple way how to add metallic shine and bright repetitive pops (sorry, I swore I wouldn't say that anymore) of color
