We tried out this tutorial last night and it worked great! One suggestion would be to cut a few extra vent holes in the back of the box to let out some of the heat of the chargers. Other than that, wonderful project!

Now why didn't I think of that. Thank you so much!

This is an old post so i'm not sure if anyone is even reading it anymore but...
Love it, have been wanting to do it for a while and finally made the time tonight. Positioned the holes differently so it would sit on a bookshelf. FYI the link to the Tut is a little lame. Country Living's instructions could not have been more half assed.
I suggest anyone who wants to do this do a test run with a crappy throw away shoebox before cutting holes in either a store bought storage box, or a much nicer heavier weight shoebox. You'll be able to modify the hole positioning and understand exactly what you want out of the box. ie where is your outlet and where should the big hole be? how many devices will you be charging, blah blah.
I tested a puma shoebox and will use that for a while before recycling it and cutting into a nice heavy kenneth cole shoebox. I might get fancy and add a little gutter so that the devices slant upright instead of lying flat.
Fun, quick, cheap, easy effective project for anyone wanting instant gratification for a DIY charging station. Enjoy!
