Make It: Conversation Heart Chocolate Boxes for your Valentine

by on Jan 24, 2020

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to start making plans. Nothing screams Valentine’s Day quite like conversation hearts. They’re colorful, they’re graphic, and they say something (sorta) meaningful in ten characters or less. But, they taste kinda icky, so this year, I’m combing the classic conversation heart with something we all actually want to eat: chocolate.

Not only is this approach budget-friendly, but it’s a very simple project that you can easily customize for your Valentine, no matter your level of experience with crafting. Choose to be sweet or goofy with your sayings, and there’s no doubt your Valentine will appreciate the thoughtfulness as well as the chocolate inside.

Materials:

  • Large heart-shaped chocolate boxes (these are about 5 inches)
  • 1-2 pieces of 12-inch pastel colored cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Large red alphabet stickers, all caps

Step

Take off the top of the chocolate box and trace it onto a sheet of pastel paper. Repeat with a second piece so you have a top and bottom.

Step

Cut out the hearts, leaving a little extra space around the traced area so that it will completely cover the box.

Step

Add glue to the top of the chocolate box and top with the paper heart. Then glue the other heart to the bottom of the box. Let dry (place a heavy item on top if needed to press it down).

Step

Add stickers to the top of box in your desired saying. To ensure the words are centered, place the middle letters first and work outward.

My personal favorite is “BAE MINE.” You can also create customized hearts with words for your Valentine, like their name. Have fun with it to show your Valentine how much you care, even with an inexpensive gift!
