How to: Make an Edible Gumdrop Garland for the Holidays

by on Nov 21, 2017

Is there anything better than pretty decor you can eat? I’m a big fan of edible decor for the holidays! It makes me feel like Willy Wonka telling guests that things are edible, and now you can achieve that same feeling with this incredibly easy edible gumdrop garland that you can string across a section of your home for guests to grab gumdrops from while they mingle. If nothing else, these sugary candies add a little color to your holiday!

For best results, do not leave the garland out for more than a few hours or you risk the candy becoming hard.

Materials:

  • Gumdrop candies
  • Fishing line
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Step

Thread a needle with a long piece of fishing line cut to the desired length of your garland. Mine was about 2 1/2 feet.

Step

Carefully poke the needle through the flat end of a gumdrop and push the gumdrop all the way down the line until you have about 5 inches left. Repeat with enough gumdrops to fill your garland as desired.

Note, your needle, line and workspace may become very sticky. Keep a damp towel on hand to wipe down occasionally if supplies become difficult to work with.

Step

To hang it, I looped the ends of the fishing line around push pins, but you can also tape the ends in place or loop them around command hooks to avoid wall damage. To eat, simply pull a gumdrop from one end of the garland! They should slide off easily.

Before you know it, the entire garland will be eaten! Try stringing it across a bar cart, a wall or other easily accessible place in your home. Store in an airtight container when not in use.
