Don’t Only Spend Mother’s Day with Your Kids – This DIY Get-Together with Besties is a Special Treat

by on May 1, 2017

On Mother’s Day, it’s lovely to be the recipient of a nice gift or thoughtful activity from your child or partner. But why limit the awesomeness to a single morning? This Mother’s Day, we vote to celebrate not just once, but as much as you possibly can. To start, why not have all your nearest and dearest mama friends over for a fun workshop and tasty treats? It doesn’t have to be complicated or super fancy. Like all things related to the holiday, it’s the thought that counts. Here’s a sure way to throw a successful little celebration in honor of all those gals that need a little extra “me” time along with an afternoon of fun.

Step

First, it’s spring, so start with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers! This will instantly add a splash of color and happiness to the table. When the festivities are done, you can carefully deconstruct the bouquet to create mini bouquets for each friend to take home (aww…thoughtful!).

Grab a simple spread of tasty treats to snack on while crafting and conversing! I wanted the day to be about the fun workshop rather than being fussy about a big brunch.  I had chocolate croissants, muffins, brownies, mini lemon biscuits, fresh grapes, a selection of cheese, crackers, mimosas, wine, and coffee. This plan means the only thing you have to make the day of is a pot of coffee. How’s that for simple?

Step

Plan a fun workshop where the girls can take their minds off of things back home and invest some time in themselves instead. Do a bit of research around your community to see if there is anyone who specializes in a certain craft that could come and teach you and your friends (there might be a fee, so stick to a budget you are comfortable with). I was lucky enough to have a friend that taught us a bit of basic calligraphy, but you can do anything, such as jewelry making or flower arranging. It’s totally up to you!

Finally, relax and enjoy this sweet time with your friends. We often need to remind ourselves of why it’s so important to show gratitude and appreciation for each and every one of our relationships.

Hope you have a blast celebrating Mother’s Day together with your besties, and happy planning!
