I love using letters and words in my house… it’s such an easy way to infuse a space with some serious personality. And when I saw these gold metal letters at my local craft store, I knew immediately what I’d do with them. Click through to check out my crazy easy tutorial for a set of monogram letter hooks.

In order to add a screw-in hook to a metal letter, you’ll need to add scrap wood to the inside of the letter so you have a solid surface for the hook to screw up into. Begin by cutting your scrap wood to the correct size – simply measure the bottom of the first letter and then cut the wood so that it is 1/8 of an inch narrower on all sides so it fits nicely inside the bottom area of the letter. Next, drill a pilot hole through the center of the wood. Place a piece of scrap wood underneath if you’d like to protect your work surface.

Next, apply E6000 glue to one side of the wood and nestle it inside the bottom of the letter. Shift it around a bit until the pilot hole is in the center and can be seen through one of the existing holes in the letter.

If your letter is solid metal, you will need to drill the pilot hole after the wood is securely glued to the letter using a bit that’s made specifically for metal.

Once the glue has dried completely, screw the hook into the pilot hole. Repeat the process for the other letters and then mount them on the wall. If you plan to hang heavy items from your hooks, be sure to mount them using drywall anchors.

These hooks are both functional and pretty – my favorite kind of project! They could totally be customized, too… you might spray paint each of them a different color, or use letters of different styles to give them a bit of variation.

They’ll add some serious personality to your entryway, and they’ll also provide you with an extra place to hang those items that you use the most. Win-win!
