Trap Door Wine Cellar? Yes, Please!

by on Oct 7, 2010

Besides the cool factor of having a trap door in your kitchen floor, how fun would it be to pop it open when friends are over, descend a spiral staircase and come up offering them a 1994 Pinot Noir? There is a trap door in the kitchen.

Available through Spiral Cellars, a UK company, the pre fab concrete cellar can hold up to 1900 bottles of wine in perfect storage conditions. Here’s the deal:

A watertight, pre-cast cylindrical system that’s sunk into the ground, it can be located anywhere from kitchen to conservatory, workshop to study. It can be installed into an existing ground floor room, or incorporated into the build of an extension or new property.

Not a bad view down, either. It definitely adds dimension to the kitchen.

There’s been talk of US expansion, if it hasn’t already happened. (No brainer)

  1. I like this idea! But any idea where to buy this kind of horizontal glass door to close the cellar?
