How to Refresh your Kitchen, Part 2: The Importance of Measuring!

by on Jun 1, 2010

Okay, so now that we have our inspiration folders completed, we can get down to work with our tape measures. Measuring sounds easy enough. You feed out your measuring tape, measure the dimensions of your kitchen and you’re done, right? Wrong. There’s much more to it than that, and it’s a lesson you don’t want to learn when you’re at the store about to smack down a wad of cash on a big ticket item. So, to make it MUCH easier for all of us, here’s a handy measuring chart from IKEA:

DON’T forget these measurements as well:

  • Floor to ceiling
  • Distance between walls
  • From the corners to the doors
  • The size of the doors and windows
  • The height and distance of the windows from the floor, ceiling and corners

If you’re a renter:

Measure the space above your sink and counters. This will aid in maximizing your storage space by adding additional wall storage.
