Kohara Lodge, located in Arthurs Point, Queenstown, New Zealand, is set into a hillside and its roof is covered in grass. And that's about where the similarities end between it and Bilbo's Hobbit Hole in the Shire.
The Lodge's architects, Murray Cockburn Partnership, set about replicating nature in the building's construction. They used local schist, which was dry stacked as much as possible, and recycled railroad ties outside. There's not a jot of paint on the exterior of the house.
