Aunt Anne’s gets me every time. And it’s not just because I’m a bit peckish from an afternoon of power-shopping either. Those pretzels just smell so warm and buttery. Mmm. To fill our homes with that same scent would be wonderful and to get a pretzel out of the deal too, well, that would be the icing on the cake. And Christa Rose has the recipe to do just that.
To make a batch of 12, you’ll need:
- 4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 4 cups hot water
- 1/4 cup kosher salt, for topping
