If you’re in a pinch for a fresh, modern looking area rug, and are feeling frustrated by your choices at the local home improvement outlets, just make your own and and save $$$…
What you need:
- 2 pieces of 3 ft. wide carpet runner with no sewn or bound edging edges
These are sold by the foot on a roll with limited choices but look for color and/or texture, like a ribbed heather.
- utility knife
- level
- straight edge
- duct tape
2. Unroll the runners and, make sure the long edges are straight. Firmly tape them together with duct tape right down the middle. Add tapes across the center taped seam at 12″ intervals.
3. Using a level, straight edge and utility knife, mark how long you want your area rug. Run the utility knife along the straight edge, cutting off excess to make the top and bottom of the rug straight and “square”. Now add a piece of duct tape across the top and bottom of the rug edges to hold the ends in place.
A simple, inexpensive answer to your rug dilemma.
