Celebrate a Fun New Year with a DIY Splatter Painted Photo Backdrop

by on Dec 27, 2016

With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, last-minute decorating ideas make putting together a party a whole lot easier. As someone who loves a good photo booth, I wanted to share a quick DIY splatter painted photo backdrop that’ll add a simple photo opp to any blank wall.

Using just paper and metallic paints, you can put together a backdrop in as little as 15 minutes. Plain construction paper splattered with silver and gold spray paint are layered on top of each other to create a backdrop that screams New Year’s Eve!

MATERIALS:

  • Black construction paper
  • Silver spray paint
  • Gold spray paint
  • Tape

Step

Cover an outdoor area with plastic and/or cardboard to protect against spray paint. Lay out several pieces of black construction paper.

Step

Very lightly spray the paint about a foot away from the paper. If you spray lightly enough, it will produce large splatters of paint rather than a smooth spray. Repeat with both colors on about 20 pieces of paper in no particular pattern.

The paper should dry almost instantly. Use regular tape to adhere the paper to a blank wall, alternating the direction of the paper. Layer the paper so that the tape is always covered.

It’s the easiest backdrop you’ll ever make, but it still makes quite the statement! It’ll be a hit for your New Year’s gathering.
