Make It! Simple & Easy DIY Christmas Card Display

by on Dec 13, 2016

Can you believe how quickly December is flying by?! Before I knew it, Christmas cards started arriving in the mail and I realized I had nowhere to display them. In our small apartment, it can be difficult to find space, so I decided to utilize an existing frame on a table to make this DIY framed web card holder that would be easy to store away for next season or repurpose for other items.

This project is very easy to put together with a few simple supplies, and you can upgrade it with colors that match the holiday season! Using any frame in any size, you simply string yarn tightly across the back of the frame for pinning your Christmas cards for display. It now sits on a table out of the way, and it’s easy to store away after the holidays.

MATERIALS:

  • Photo frame, backing and glass removed
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Staple gun
  • Clothespins or clips

Step

Remove the backing and glass from a photo frame so that only the empty wood frame remains.

Step

Use a staple gun to staple the end of a skein of yarn to the back of the frame near one of the corners (double staple for good measure if needed) and then tie a knot to secure it.

Note, a thinner frame may result in the staple being visible from the front. Be sure to staple at the thickest part of the frame if you’re concerned about this.

Step

Without cutting the yarn, string it tightly across to the other side of the frame and staple again. This must be very tight and secure in order for the cards to hang properly.

Step

Continue stringing the yarn back and forth across the frame in no particular pattern to create a web. Once you feel it’s full enough, cut the yarn and make sure the final staple is secure (double staple if needed) and tie another knot.

Step

Flip over the frame and use clothespins or similar clips to clip cards to the yarn. Lean on a table for display or add hanging hardware to the back of the frame if you prefer to hang it.

Easy, right?! Now, when the holidays are over, you can choose to repurpose it to hang other items like notes and photos. Otherwise, store it away until next Christmas!
