Add a Pop of Color with DIY Typographic Confetti Art

by on Jan 5, 2018

Sometimes wall art just needs to be fun. To celebrate the little moments, I made this DIY graphic confetti art with the saying “Make Life a Party” and it’s sitting on my desk as a reminder to see the positive side of things. It’s really easy to make, and I’ll even share how to make your own confetti if you want something specific.

Personally, cutting this out with my Cricut Explore Air was much easier, but you can use a craft knife to cut out your letters too!

DIY Graphic Confetti Art Supplies

Materials:

  • Thick white cardstock
  • Colored cardstock for matting (optional)
  • Cutting machine or craft knife with stencil
  • Confetti (see below to make your own)
  • Standard frame in desired size

To make your own confetti:

  • Various colors of tissue paper
  • 1-inch hole punch

Step

Cut the cardstock paper to the size of frame if needed, or cut smaller if using a colored mat. Then cut the mat to fit the full size of the frame.

Step

Cut out thick block letters in the middle of the cardstock (I used Arial Bold font) using either a machine or a craft knife with a stencil/template as a guide. Keep in mind that the middles of letters like O, A, D, etc. will not be visible. If you’re cutting by hand, try using a lamp or light box to see your template.

Step

If you want to make your own confetti, simply use a small hole punch to cut a variety of colors of tissue paper and mix them together.

Step

Remove the backing of the frame and place the cut cardstock inside, positioned in the middle. Then cover with confetti so that it entirely fills the spaces where the letters are open.

Step

If using a colored mat, carefully place it now. Replace the back of the frame (it should fit tightly) and turn over the frame. If any pieces of confetti are out of place in front of the frame, remove the confetti and fix it – this could take a couple of tries.

Now, hang or place on a shelf as a reminder to always make today a party! Make this project using a variety of sayings and colorful confetti combinations for a unique piece of art.
